Challenge

Since 2005, the City of Phoenix has been collecting automated pavement condition data using Street Transportation staff for the collection and processing of the pavement condition data. Automated condition data is loaded into the dTIMS pavement management system for processing and analysis.

Phoenix Transportation 2050 is an initiative at the City of Phoenix which plans for the transportation needs of the city out to 2050. The majority of the funding for Transportation 2050 comes from a 0.7 percent sales tax that went into force on January 1st, 2016. This is projected to generate approximately $16.7 billion for investment in transportation.

Generating data driven analysis results to show the need for Transportation 2050 is a challenge. Funding needs to be secured for road rehabilitation and maintenance.

Solution

The City used their dTIMS solution to justify funding needs and future projections.

Results

The dTIMS Pavement Management System was instrumental in helping to generate the analysis to aid in determining the need for funding and how to prioritize improvements across the city.
