Challenge

The flexibility of dTIMS enables agencies to integrate additional ancillary assets such as Pavement Striping and Raised Pavement Markings (RPM). This project generated the opportunity for Deighton, GDOT, and Arcadis to team up and implement these new assets into an existing dTIMS system.

Solution

The project was broken down into the configuration of three components: Database, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and Operations Management.

  • Database Configuration - dTIMS Tables and Attributes were created to store the Pavement Striping and RPM assets in dTIMS. Arcadis provided the corresponding data to import into the system.

  • Life Cycle Cost Configuration – Respective analysis tables were created (Striping Analysis & RPM Analysis). Data was aggregated into these tables and performance indices calculated to drive the analysis. Planning segments were based on the fiscal year and quarterly work was planned.

  • Maintenance Management Configuration - dTIMS OM was configured to interact with BA to generate works programs. Field mapping occurs from planned segments to work orders.

Results

The solution, including dTIMS BA and OM, enables GDOT to plan statewide pavement markings (RPM and Striping) in a programmatic fashion based on the life-cycle of material provided by the client. Work Orders are created in the program from the plan. GDOT advances work orders from creation to completion, tracking key fields.
