Deighton Associates and Rutgers University Partner to Implement dTIMS CT in the Garden State!

Deighton Associates Limited is pleased to be working in conjunction with Rutgers University to deliver a sustainable and cost effective pavement management support system to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

An inquiry from NJDOT at the 2005 Northeast Pavement Management Conference in New Brunswick, New Jersey set the wheels in motion that resulted in an agreement between Rutgers University and Deighton Associates to jointly overhaul the NJDOT pavement management system. Following independent appraisals by The National Center for Pavement Preservation and Applied Pavement Technology, that both clearly indicated, “the current software doesn't meet current needs” and recommended an overhaul of the current NJDOT pavement management system, NJDOT set out to find out more about Deighton Associates and the services that they provided.

NJDOT did their research and found that, “your company's[Deighton]product has been mentioned by more state and federal pavement management practitioners than any other”, said Robert W. Sauber, at the time, Supervising Engineer for the NJDOT Pavement Technology Unit. “By the response we got”, says Robert Piane, Vice president of Deighton Associates Limited, “what NJDOT heard from their mentors and peers must have been positive. That makes the extra effort Deighton puts into their software development, implementation services and support so worth while.”

The Rutgers Pavement Resource Center will participate by assisting in the database structuring and analysis model development phases of the project. Plans currently call for a research dTIMS CT database to be maintained by Rutgers. The operation level dTIMS CT, to be utilized by NJDOT staff, will utilize subsets of the research database.

Deighton looks forward to these two new relationships and is confident that the team of Rutgers and Deighton will deliver a successful project that will satisfy the current and future pavement management needs of New Jersey.
