CDOT Begins Asset Management Journey

Recently the Colorado Department of Transportation contracted with Deighton to develop a framework for implementing multiple assets within dTIMS CT. Interested in the work performed by Deighton for other high profile states such as Utah and North Dakota, CDOT sought the services of Deighton to meet with many different asset groups to see how their asset management practices could be included in an overall asset management system for Strategic Planning and for Cross Asset Trade-offs.

Jeff Zavitski from Deighton travelled to CDOT to meet with the various asset group teams to determine what data they have available and how they use that data in their respective management systems for planning and programming decisions. Traditional assets such as pavement asset and bridge assets were included in the discussions but non traditional assets such as fleet assets and ITS assets were included as well.

In July, Deighton will finalize the framework for CDOT with the completion of the Implementation Framework Report that will document how each asset could be implemented within dTIMS CT and the necessary resources from CDOT staff and outside consultants that would be necessary for the initial implementation and the enhancements to the analysis in the future. Once the report is complete CDOT will weigh the resources needed to implement the system against the tremendous benefits that the implementation will offer and decide how to proceed.
