ARRB Partners with Deighton
by Marcel Lavigne

ARRB

The Western Australian Local Government Association “WALGA” has chosen Deighton’s dTIMS CT to help their Members manage their road networks.  WALGA is a private and independent entity which represents its Members who are the 141 Local Governments (also known as City, Town or Shire Councils) in WA with 1400 elected members, 12,500 employees and 1.9 million constituents. The management of the project including implementation of dTIMS CT software will be handled by the ARRB Group, a leading provider of value-added research, consulting and technology addressing transport problems. Deighton is very excited at the prospect of working with the WALGA and ARRB teams and further expanding the use of its Asset Management System, dTIMS CT down under. |top|

Mongolia Purchases dTIMS CT
by Rob Piane

Deighton Associates is pleased to welcome the country of Mongolia to its family of dTIMS CT users. The contract is through the Asian Development Bank with the assistance of Lea Consulting Limited.

Special thanks goes out to Mr. Andy Kim (Lea) and Mr. Phil Salt (Lea) for their direction through the process and for taking on the implementation with Mr. Mike Riley (Riley Partnership).

The Mongolia Department of Roads (DOR) is implementing dTIMS CT using HDM-4 management philosophy for all their road assets. We are pleased that the flexibility of dTIMS CT and the experience of the
implementation team can come together to satisfy the
DOR requirements today and into the future. |top|

Simplifying a dTIMS Setup in Indiana
by Gary Ruck

Deighton is pleased to be continuing their long term relationship with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) with a joint project that will revamp their pavement management system and adapt dTIMS CT to changes at INDOT.  We are delighted to have a platform as flexible as dTIMS CT that allows us to listen to the clients needs and adjust the current dTIMS CT setup to reflect their current management, business and IT requirements.

In November 2009, Deighton travelled to Indianapolis to meet with INDOT’s newly appointed pavement management engineer, Jewell Stone P.E., to discuss ways of updating the dTIMS CT setup. Deighton listened and we were able to respond with a shared list of tasks that demonstrates the sustainability of dTIMS CT in changing times.

Technical changes to the dTIMS CT setup include:

• Changes to the database structure to simplify the acquisition of data from existing data
sources,

• Modification of the treatment definitions to move the analysis from a “near project level” to a more desired macro treatment analysis,

• Modifications to the dTIMS CT analysis parameters that control the deterioration of performance indices and treatment triggering.

The end result will be a more streamlined and easier to understand dTIMS CT setup.  As time goes on, the system can always be modified to reflect further changes at INDOT. This project is ongoing and is slated for completion in the Spring of 2010.

Enhancing ROI Functionality
by Kyle Dunn

Currently the ROI chart that is displayed by dTIMS md is a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional surface. We will be enhancing the ROI funtionality to include a 3-d rendering of a ROI dataset. This way the asset condition dependency can be shown relative to the two independent variables of Time and Cumulative Cost.

In addition, we will be adding scenario functionality which will allow you to view various scenarios (with horizontal and vertical lines as shown in the above diagrams) based on selected condition states or suggested annual budgets for various planning horizons.

If you would like to view dTIMS md in action, we have created a series of software simulations highlighting the features and benefits of dTIMS md. These are currently available on the Deighton Online Learning Community. |top|
