DUC 2010 Concludes
by Craig German, Deighton

Once again the annual Deighton User Conference has come and gone. 2010 was a milestone in many respects at DUC. 2010 marked the 20th Deighton User Conference we have hosted and we also celebrated 20 year anniversary's for: Viagroup, City of Cornwall, City of Brampton and the State of Maine. Congratulations to all!

DUC has always been the venue for breaking industry news and peeks at cutting-edge enhancements of our latest products. This year was no exception as Deighton released dTIMS Workflow (wf). In addition, Richard Fox-Ivey gave us a sneak peek into the future development of dTIMS Maintenance Management (mm).

Many thanks to our consultants, distributors and users who presented case studies during the week. Special thanks to Viagroup for helping to organize "European Day" on the Wednesday of the conference. We have posted the presentations, including the conference closing slide show, by Jeff Zavitski, on the Deighton Online Learning Community.

Thanks and see you in 2011!

by Craig German, Deighton

DUC 2010 marked the official release of dTIMS wf. dTIMS wf enables you to create visual representations of your dTIMS CT processes saving you time by automating manual dTIMS CT routines. As a follow up to the release presentation at DUC, we have scheduled a webinar for those unable to attend the conference or those wishing to have another look.

Please join us Sept. 1 at 1PM EDT for a 45 minute webinar as Gary Ruck explores several different dTIMS wf usage scenarios, from simple to advanced.

International Update: Viagroup
by Alain Hueppi, Viagroup

viagroup logoViagroup* is currently working on a number of dTIMS CT projects overseas. One such project involves upgrading the Road Authorities of Croatia from Version 7 to Version 8 of dTIMS.
In addition, Viagroup is working on an upgrade for the Flemish Road Authority (Belgium). This upgrade is from dTIMS CT Desktop Version 6 to dTIMS CT SQL Enterprise Version 8. The work encompassed in this upgrade will include changing their existing setup, importing new data and modelling.

Viagroup is also doing a pilot study for the London Borough of Sutton (one of 33 Boroughs in the City of London). dTIMS will provide them with a report and supporting data to enable the Borough to get the funding for their budget for their roads in the upcoming year.

* Based in Switzerland, Viagroup is the exclusive Deighton Distributor for Europe and is also a Certified Consultant. Deighton is proud to have partnered with Viagroup for 20 years and recognized this at DUC 2010 with a special "European Day". Congratulations Viagroup!

Paving the Road to Safety
by Richard Fox-Ivey, Deighton

Deighton attended the 36th International Forum on Traffic Records & Highway Information Systems in beautiful New Orleans, LA from July 25th to July 28th.

The three day forum draws attendees from around the world and provides a venue for the annual meeting of the US Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals. Presentations at the conference covered a wide variety of topics pertaining to roadway safety, including:

  • Building Strategic Highway Safety Plans,
  • Current research to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities,
  • The collection, storage and analysis of safety-related data on the road network to identify potential safety “hot spots” and to develop potential solutions

This year's forum was a resounding success! Original attendance estimates were for 250 but actual attendance exceeded 400; an increase over the previous year’s number and a strong message that even in the current economic environment safety remains a top priority for roadway agencies.

The conference provided an opportunity for Deighton to connect with numerous safety professionals and to discuss how dTIMS CT can provide a means to model roadway safety as part of a stand alone management effort or as part of a larger asset management initiative requiring cross-asset optimization.
